Brenda Mazariegos reached a civil settlement against the city of Stamford and Police Officer Gregory Zach before the case went to trial, according to the report.
"This vicious and unjustified assault is every citizen's worst fear about a police force run amok," said Mazariegos' lawyer, Antonio Ponvert III, of law firm Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, according to the Stamford Advocate. "Officer Zach's excessive force against a tiny woman should have landed him in jail. Instead he is back on the job, wearing a uniform and carrying a gun, being paid at taxpayers' expense. It's a travesty."
Mazariegos was in her friend's car in June 2009 at an Alive@Five concert when "with no justification, Zach ordered her out of her car, punched her in the face with a closed fist, then left her bleeding, crying and shackled in a swelteringly hot police cruiser, the lawsuit said," according to the Stamford Advocate.
After the incident, Zach, was placed on administrative leave and eventually suspended without pay for a little more than two months, according to the Stamford Advocate.
