Stamford Teams Play for Tournament Title

STAMFORD, Conn. – Springdale and Stamford American will play for the Stamford Little League Tournament of Champions on Sunday at Chestnut Hill Park in North Stamford at 2 p.m.

Springdale, which played in the house league as Clairol, has a 20-0 record. It defeated Stamford Federal, 8-1, to reach the championship game.

Stamford American's representative played in the house league season as the Exchange Club. It defeated North Stamford, 5-4, and National Lione, 2-1, to reach the title game. Stamford American, 15-6, has won nine straight games.

The tournament is a prelude to the District 1 Little League tournament, which begins Tuesday. The District 1 tournament, which features teams from Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Wilton, Weston, Ridgefield and Redding, will open Tuesday with a game between Springdale and defending champion North Stamford at Springdale. District 1 will also salute Stamford American on the 60th anniversary of its team's victory the 1951 World Series.

Also Sunday, the All Towns Tournament of Champions will holds its championship game at 4 p.m. at Chestnut Hill. Rowayton will play the winner of an 11 a.m. game between Wilton and Ridgefield National. That game will be played at Wilton's Bill Terry Field.
