Stamford Artist Wins Watercolor Award

Stamford artist Ellen Gordon was a first-place winner in the juried all-media exhibition “Expressions 2011” at the Rowayton Arts Center. Gordon won in the watercolor category.

Anne Marie Stuelpnagel, director of exhibitions at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, was the juror. She selected the winners and also chose 55 display artworks from a pool of 91 entries. Works can be seen at the gallery, located at 145 Rowayton Ave., Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and the exhibit will be on view through March 27.

Other prize-winners from Stamford were Susan Frey, who placed second in the acrylic category, and Carol Burt, who earned honorable mention in the pastels and drawings category.
