Snow, Sleet Possible Overnight In Norwalk

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- After enduring a dreary, rainy and gray Saturday, Fairfield County residents may have to cope with snow and sleet overnight, the National Weather Service said.

The rain will continue until about 1 a.m., with a chance of snow and sleet between 1 and 4 a.m. in the northern part of Fairfield County. The changeover to snow and sleet could happen later along the coastal areas.

The overnight low will be about 25 to 30 degrees, with wind chill values between 20 and 25 degrees. Light north winds will increase to 6 to 11 mph with gust as high as 26 mph.

The good news: Little or no snow and sleet accumulation is expected.

Also, a Gale Warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday across the waters of Long Island Sound with winds of 10 to 25 knots and gusts of up to 40 knots. Seas will be 2 to 4 feet high. Inexperienced mariners are urged to seek safe harbor.

It will be sunny but chilly on Sunday, with high temperatures in the mid-30s across the region. But strong winds of 13 to 17 mph, gusting to 39 mph, will make it feel colder, with wind chill values of 15 and 25 degrees.

Residents may want to grab an extra blanket on Sunday night, with temperatures dropping into the teens and wind chills near zero.

The forecast worsens for the start of the workweek. The National Weather Service warns that a slow-moving coastal storm will affect Fairfield County from late Monday through Wednesday night.

The storm's timing and intensity is uncertain. But freezing drizzle late Monday could either turn to plain rain or to a mix of snow and freezing rain. Rainfall could be heavy, with flash flooding possible on Tuesday. Showers are likely to continue on Wednesday.
