Snow Emergency Declared In Norwalk; City Hall Opening Delayed

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling has declared a snow emergency in Norwalk, and City Hall will have a delayed opening at noon Monday.

Rilling declared the snow emergency Sunday night in advance of the expected snowstorm. City officials are closely watching the storm, and the decision to close City Hall for the day will be made as needed.

There will be no garbage or recycling pickup Monday, and all scheduled pickups this week are pushed back one day. The Norwalk Transfer Station on Crescent Street is open Monday.

Norwalk police, fire and EMS are working closely with the Department of Public Works and utilities to ensure safe operations during Monday's storm. If you have a power outage, you should call your utility company and not assume that they know about it already.

Officials say residents should limit the amount they drive, and make sure cars are free of snow and ice before driving. If possible, move cars off the street to allow for DPW crews to plow. Cars parked on streets marked as snow emergency routes may be ticketed and towed.
