FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - Former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays he will make a formal announcement for his bid for the U.S. Senate on Jan. 25 in Hartford, his camp reports.
The news came through a release from his campaign Friday, stating that the Republican had raised more than $500,000 in the fourth quarter. The total includes $422,145 from 749 individual donors and a $100,000 loan from Shays and his wife, Betsi.
"Im asking people to join something special - a revolution to get our country back on track and our fellow Americans back to work," Shays said in a release.
Linda McMahon is also seeking the Republican nomination to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman. Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy and state Rep. William Tong are among those vying to be the Democratic candidate.
