Sentencing Delayed For Norwalk Woman Who Had Relationship With Student

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A scheduling conflict has delayed sentencing for former Stamford High School teacher Danielle Watkins, who is facing nine months to 20 years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a male student, according to a report by CT News.

Danielle Watkins, 32, a former English teacher in the Stamford schools, is awaiting sentencing after being accused of having sex with an 18-year-old male student.

Watkins, a 32-year-old Norwalk resident was first arrested in July after a student said he and Watkins had an ongoing sexual relationship and said Watkins had provided and smoked marijuana with him and a younger student, the report said.

Watkins was set to be sentenced last Wednesday, but bad weather kept family members from attending and testifying on her behalf led to a delay until Monday, the report said.

But a scheduling conflict with the attorney representing two victims put the sentencing off until Wednesday at the Stamford courthouse, the report said.

Her prison sentence remains up in the air. Watkins had accepted a plea bargain last fall and was warned by Judge Gary White not to get arrested again, the report said.

But Watkins had a run-in with the former student that she supplied marijuana to at a local Dunkin' Donuts, the report said. The teen and his mother called police, and Watkins was arrested and charged with harassment and violating her conditions of release by contacting the young man, the report said.

She has been held on $146,000 bond in Niantic’s York Correctional Center for women since her arraignment on those charges in January, the report said.
