According to the data from the monthly indicators report, there were 6,175 criminal arrests in January 2015, compared to 6,976 in January 2014. In February 2015 there were 5,478 criminal arrests, compared to 6,175 during February 2014.

“Credit to the trends we’re seeing in crime reduction must go to the close collaboration between local, state and federal agencies, and their partnerships with community leaders who are working together day in and day out to reduce crime,” Malloy said.

“These numbers are moving in the right direction, and we must continue enforcing thoughtful criminal justice initiatives that ensure our front-line law enforcement have the tools they need to keep our communities safe, while also focusing on efforts that break the cycle of crime.”

The monthly data follows recent trends of declining arrests in the state, which have decreased 24 percent over the last decade. Reported crime has dropped 23 percent over the same period.

Other interesting statistics included in the monthly report include:

  • Pretrial jail admissions in February 2015 was the lowest in 11 years, down 35 percent since 2005, and 7.7 percent lower than the same month last year
  • The total releases of sentenced prisoners in February 2015 was 5 percent lower than February 2014
  • Over the past several years, reported crime in Connecticut has dropped to a 47-year low, with violent crime in Connecticut's three big cities falling by nearly 15 percent in 2013 from the year before.

According to a recent FBI report, Connecticut’s statewide crime drop of 10 percent last year was twice the national average of 5 percent.
