NORWALK, Conn. Commuters to the South Norwalk train station can rejoice: Monroe Street has reopened.
The road was closed in August , between Chestnut and State streets, so it could be lowered under the Metro-North Railroad bridge. Officials said it would be closed through at least Sept. 9, but the detour was in place throughout October. Pedestrians headed from Main Street to the southbound side were asked to walk down Chestnut Street to get to the Henry Street entrance.
Although the road still needs work lines aren't painted and construction equipment remains the detour was no longer in place Saturday and motorists sailed under the bridge on smooth pavement.
