Raymond D. Street, 86, Of Rowayton, Chief Marine Mechanic, The Boat Works

DARIEN, Conn. - Raymond D. Street, a lifelong resident of Darien, died Wednesday, July 31. He was 86.

Street was born July 11, 1927, in Stamford, son of Harry Sylvester and Gladys Dennis Street. He attended Darien High School and left to join the U.S. Navy during World War II as a seaman first class. He was a plane captain at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. He returned and worked in the family business, the Mobil then later Texaco Gas Station at Tokeneke Road and Five Mile River Road. He then went to work as chief marine mechanic at Jenkins Boatyard, later becoming The Boat Works in Rowayton for several years.

He was a 65 year member of the Darien Fire Department and the Rowayton Fire Department. He was a member of the Ischoda Yacht Club and a longtime director of Spring Grove Cemetery Association.

Street is survived by his wife, Shirley D. Street of Darien; daughters, Patricia Street Spinola (Pat), Wendy Street Baharian (Mark); two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Emma Jeanne Smith of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Mary Street Jentoft of Tucker, Ga. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Harry Street Jr.

Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tueday, Aug. 6 at the funeral home. Burial will follow with full military honors at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
