Priceline Helps Feed The Needy

Norwalk-based Priceline, the online airfare, hotel and rental car discounter, came up big in support of the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County with a donation of $35,000 worth of food.

“This donation ensures we will have enough food for our client organizations for this Thanksgiving and beyond,” said a jubilant Kate Lombardo, executive director of the Food Bank. “This really saved our Thanksgiving.”

Priceline employees made cash donations to the Food Bank, and the company matched them dollar-for-dollar, according to the company’s general counsel, Peter Millones.

“This is the sixth year we’ve given to the Food Bank, and it is by far our largest donation.”

Check in hand, Priceline volunteers headed to Costco and filled two rental trucks with much needed foodstuffs and delivered them to the Food Bank, which is located on Glenbrook Avenue in Stamford.

Costco store manager Tom Daly said, “We facilitate a large order like this by making the product available and making it easy and painless for them to load their trucks.”

Among the items purchased by the Priceline team were 600 frozen turkeys.

Helping the Priceline crew with the unloading was a group  of UBS employees who are contributing their time to assist the Food Bank this holiday season.

The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County serves over 100 non-profit organizations in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton and Darien.

Kate Lombardo summed up the big gift this way; “This is the best example of local money, kept local in order to help local.
