NORWALK, Conn. A pedestrian hit by a car Sunday night on Connecticut Avenue is in critical condition, a hospital spokesman said Monday afternoon. Norwalk police said the 55-year-old woman was taken to Norwalk Hospital on Sunday with injuries to her right side.
The victim was crossing the road at 525 Connecticut Ave., Sgt. Lisa Cotto said, and struck at about 6:13 p.m. by a BMW driven by a 42-year-old Stamford man. The man, who was traveling west in the right lane, said he never saw her crossing the road and did not know what direction she had come from. At the last minute he saw something, hit the brakes and swerved but hit her.
A witness traveling slightly behind the BMW in the left lane said he did not see the woman, either.
The woman was carrying food from the Burger King there. The road is poorly illuminated, and there is no crosswalk, Cotto said. The accident happened 600 feet from the Burger King. Other witnesses could not say where she was crossing the road.
The BMW sustained damage to the hood and front end. It was towed. No charges were filed against the driver.
