NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s STAR recently received a $20,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation.
The grant will fund STAR’s “My First Job” program, which allows people with development disabilities to take their first jobs.
The program supports participants with job training and other assistance as they work.
“This program offers exciting opportunities to our clients as well as their new employers,” Katie Banzhaf, executive director of STAR, said in a press release.
“It is an important step in for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in becoming more independent, productive and socially integrated into their communities.”
“With Connecticut recognized as an Employment First state to support people with disabilities, these funds can benefit many qualified individuals eager for competitive employment in our communities.”
“We are grateful to Fairfield County’s Community Foundation and to our local employers.”
More than 60 STAR clients are currently participating in the “My First Job” program.
