NORWALK, Conn. When 10,000 square feet of space became available to Norwalks Edge Fitness Club, it took advantage of the opportunity to grow.
We really didnt want to leave our location, said Nicole Falco , managing director for the Edge. And the availability of the space allowed the club to stay in its corner of the shopping center at 542 Westport Road.
The reason behind the expansion, Falco said, is that trends in fitness are moving toward functional training rather than just weights. And functional training needs more open space, which the expansion provides.
Adding the extra space also allowed the facility to expand class sizes and its yoga studio while also putting in a one-on-one Pilates room.
In all, it took the Edge from December to late February to complete the renovations. It stayed open throughout.
That was one of our goals, Falco said. We wanted to keep our members' routines intact as much as possible. Much of the renovation work was done overnight or by sectioning off parts of the floor, she said.
So far, Falco said the reaction from members has been wow, and the expansion has served to increase membership.
