Thirteen days before the election Art Scialabba was out of the race. But 12 days before the election he's back in.
Scialabba, chairman of Norwalk's Republican Town Committee, had decided to drop his campaign to lead the Republican State Central Committee but changed his mind Thursday. That's because William Aniskovich of Branford, a former state senator who had emerged as the frontrunner in the race early this week, was attacked by state Democrats for alleged ethical transgressions, according to the Hartford Courant. "I threw my support to Bill Aniskovich, and he bailed out today," Scialabba said by email. "So I am back in the race."
The new state committee chairman will be decided June 28. Scialabba said he will be spending a lot of time on the phone between now and then.
Other contenders are Vice Chairwoman Catherine Marx, former Secretary of the State Pauline Kezer, Al Alper of Wilton and Richard Olivastro of Farmington.
