Norwalker Declares As Candidate for Town Clerk

NORWALK, Conn. – A least one lifelong Norwalker isn't happy with the two-party political system when it comes to an office he feels qualified for. Peter Bondi has decided to run for town clerk. He will compete as an independent against Democrat David Jaeger and Republican Rick McQuaid in November's election to fill the position currently held by Andy Garfunkel, who is running for mayor.

Here is his statement:

My name is Peter Bondi and as a life-long resident of Norwalk I have come to know one thing about our politics--sometimes candidates are chosen on the basis of political affiliation and may not be the best candidate for the job.

This is why, after Mr. Garfunkel has decided to give up the position and not seek reelection, I have decided to run for the office of Town Clerk of Norwalk.

The position of town clerk provides the citizens of Norwalk a "Keeper of the Records": births, deaths, weddings, historical documents, licenses and real estate transactions, according to state statutes, federal regulations, municipal charter and local ordinance. The town clerk also works during election time administering election laws and processing absentee applications and ballots. He oversees an office staff while staying within a city budget.

I feel that I am the best qualified candidate for the job of town clerk not only based on my many years of business management, but I have also worked with the town clerk's office and registrar during election day, have performed duties as a Justice of the Peace and currently work as a real estate agent.

Additionally I have volunteered my time with many local events and organizations such as holding the position of Norwalk Seaport Association's Oyster Festival operations chairman, Sheffield Island Lighthouse restoration committee chairman, Norwalk Arts Commission representative, chairman and coordinator of historical reenactments, and board member for Habitat for Humanity. I'm currently the chairman of the Norwalk Historical Commission, which allows me archival experience and collections management.

All of my leadership roles within these positions have allowed me to properly prepare for the job of town clerk. I believe the citizens of Norwalk should have the opportunity to vote for a candidate who not only has pride in what he does but is also the most qualified for the position. On election day please cast your vote for Peter Bondi, "A Better Choice."

Do you think Peter Bondi is a better candidate than Rick McQuaid or David Jaeger?
