Norwalk Teen Faces 5 Year For Sex Assault Of Relative

NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man faces five years in jail for sexual assaulting a 12-year-old relative.

Javier Funez, 19, pleaded guilty Wednesday to to charges of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He will be given the mandatory minimum jail sentence of five years in jail, according to a story in The Advocate.

Funez had sex with a 12-year-old relative four years ago, according to the report. He faced 25 years in jail on the sex charge and another 20 for child endangerment if he had elected a jury trial. The girl confided during counseling last year that she had been assaulted by Funez, who was arrested in December. He was attending Western Connecticut State University and working part-time at the time of the arrest.
