Best Buy on Connecticut Avenue planned to close at 3 p.m., a store official said, and the nearby Barnes & Noble bookstore planned to do the same.

Mayor Richard Moccia declared a snow emergency for the city, and Gov. Dannel Malloy declared a state of emergency and said Connecticut highways could start shutting down as early as noon.

However, two major store chains and a local burger stand planned to stay open as long as possible. Walmart stores on opposite ends of Norwalk (Connecticut Avenue and Main Avenue) planned to stay open Friday until 10 p.m., the stores’ normal hours, according to store officials.

The Dairy King on Main Street was still open,  employees said.

And Stop & Shop, also with locations on Connecticut Avenue and Main Avenue, planned to stay open until midnight Friday, store officials said.
