Norwalk Residents Can Drop Off Hazardous Waste In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport Public Works will host its annual household hazardous waste collection day on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for residents to clean out their basements and garages of general hazardous materials,” Westport Public Works Director Stephen Edwards said in a statement.

The drop-off will be at the Yard Waste Site, 180 Bayberry Lane, Westport.

The drop-off day is also open to residents of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston and Wilton, according to the state. Residents should bring proof of residency.

Items that can be recycled on hazardous waste day include chemicals such as gasoline, paint thinners, solvents, stains, turpentine, varnishes; outdoor items like fertilizers and pesticides, and general household items.

For Westport residents, the following items can be recycled at the transfer station on the Sherwood Island Connector during normal operating hours: antifreeze, motor oil, batteries of any type, fluorescent bulbs, compact fluorescent bulbs, smoke detectors, and electronics.

The following items are not acceptable: ammunition, flares, commercial hazardous waste.
