NORWALK, Conn. -- Shoppers can save a few bucks while browsing for holiday gifts in Norwalk with free parking being offered at the Yankee Doodle Garage by the Norwalk Parking Authority.
In an effort to support the Wall Street District, the authority and Mayor Harry Rilling have partnered to offer free two-hour parking through Dec. 24 at the garage to encourage shopping and dining during the holiday season.
Julius Hayward, chairman of the Norwalk Parking Authority said: “Parking is the first and last experience people have. We want to help people to find parking easily, get out of their cars, walk around, shop, dine and enjoy Norwalk’s amazing downtown. We are happy to partner with Mayor Rilling to offer this parking program during the holiday season.”
Rilling's agreed, saying: “This is a great opportunity for the business community to offer retail and dining specials that will attract new and existing customers while enjoying the free holiday parking special.”
The authority reminds everyone the two-hour limit will remain in effect to encourage turnover of all parking spaces. Merchants are encouraged to require their employees to use alternatives to on-street parking so customers will find street spaces to park during the holiday season.
