The city currently accepts and pays to dispose of a tremendous amount of usable hardwoods.
Starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, Norwalk residents can visit the city of Norwalk website and purchase a $75 firewood voucher good for 175 pieces of wood, or about a half cord. This voucher, a matching photo ID and a resident pass then must be presented at the DPW Yard Debris Site,15 S. Smith St., for self-loaded pickup.
The pick-up day is Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. There will be subsequent Wednesday sales/pickups until all the wood is sold out. Quantities are limited.
Purchased firewood must be picked up in one visit and on specified pickup days. Residents will be limited to the purchase of a half cord of firewood per season.
Future firewood pickup days will be announced on the city's website.
For any firewood-related questions, contact Ken Hughes, superintendent of parks at khughes@norwalkct.org.
