The Norwalk Fire Department to the accident at 11 Crossland Place at 6:21 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott said in a statement.

A man in his 60s was moving wood logs in a trailer along an embankment in his yard when the tractor he was riding on tumbled 20 feet down the hill, pinning his leg under the tractor, Prescott said.

Family members and neighbors heard his calls for help and pulled him out from under the tractor just before firefighters arrived, Prescott said.

Firefighters secured the tractor to a tree. With Norwalk Hospital paramedics, they tended to the man’s injured leg and carried him up the hill to a waiting ambulance, he said.

Firefighters then used a winch from the rescue truck to move the tractor up to level ground before leaving the scene, Prescott said.
