NORWALK, Conn. A Norwalk man suspected of stealing $265,000 worth of watches from a Norwalk watch wholesaler was arrested Monday. Norwalk Police Sgt. Lisa Cotto said Cristian Giraldo, 32, of 14 Scribner Ave., confessed to the crime.
Police were called to Sequel International Inc., at 145 Woodward Ave., on Aug. 8 and told that an employee had stolen at least $30,000 in watches. The company thought the watches had been taken in a three- or four-week period, beginning in mid-June, and suspected Giraldo, who was working for a cleaning service.
Management at Sequel later reported that 517 watches had been stolen, worth a total of $265,000. Cotto said Giraldo admitted to stealing the watches and selling them because he needed money. Police obtained an arrest warrant. When Giraldo turned himself in Monday he returned 24 watches, valued at $2,400 total.
He was charged with first-degree larceny. Bond was set at $25,000.
