Norwalk Man Admits Making, Selling Machine Guns

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A Norwalk man pleaded guilty to one count of possession and transfer of a machine gun Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis in New Haven, according to David B. Fein, U.S. attorney for Connecticut.

According to the statement from Fein:

George Uzar Sr., 48, of Granite Drive was manufacturing automatic firearms, a number of which he sold to another individual. More than 100 firearms, including machine guns, were purchased or seized during a joint law enforcement investigation into the trafficking of firearms and narcotics in southwestern Connecticut. A total of 17 individuals, including Uzar, have been charged with various federal offenses.

Uzar is scheduled to be sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Ellen Bree Burns on Feb. 8 and will face a maximum prison term of 10 years.

Uzar has been detained since his arrest May 12. An indictment handed down that day said Patrick Uzar of Stamford acquired firearms from relatives and other members of the Stamford Chapter of the Latin Kings and sold them to a third party. He distributed part of the proceeds to members of a conspiracy. The indictment also said Patrick Uzar and others were involved in the distribution of cocaine and ecstasy.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the U.S. Marshals Service; the Stamford Police Department; the Bridgeport Police Department; the Norwalk Police Department; and the Connecticut Department of Correction.
