Norwalk Installs 12 Bike Racks At Maritime Garage

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Parking Authority is encouraging the parking of more than just cars at its facilities.

Recently, 12 bike racks were installed in the Maritime Garage by the North Water Street exit, free for bikers to use, according to a press release. The Parking Authority already has installed bike racks in the South Norwalk and East Norwalk train stations and a dozen more racks will be put in the Yankee Doodle Garage later this summer.

Parking Authority Board member and member of the Mayor’s Bike/Walk Task Force Jud Aley was instrumental in moving this forward.

“As a bicycling enthusiast, I’m glad to be working with the Parking Authority to raise the awareness of the benefits of biking and increase bike usage in Norwalk by making it easier to not only get around by bike, but store your bike once you reach your destination," Aley said in a press release. "Our parking facilities are safe, convenient places for bikers to park their bikes - convenient for train commuters and those visiting the urban areas of Norwalk, SoNo and Wall Street.”
