Norwalk Hospital has been recognized for clinical excellence by HealthGrades , a national independent health-care ratings organization. The hospital received the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence award for the second year in a row. It is the only hospital in Fairfield County to earn the award this year.
The award is based on HealthGrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence Study and is given to hospitals that had a statistically significantly lower risk-adjusted mortality and lower rate of in-hospital complications than all other hospitals based on an analysis of three years of Medicare data in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
According to HealthGrades , patients treated at a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence had a 29.82 percent lower risk-adjusted mortality rate and a 1.91 percent lower risk-adjusted in-hospital complication rate among Medicare beneficiaries compared to all other hospitals.
The award was given to 268 hospitals nationwide, which represents the Top 5 percent of hospital in the country for clinical performance, according to HealthGrades.
