NORWALK, Conn. A fundraising car wash scheduled for Saturday morning has been postponed because of the drowning death of 18-year-old Allan Nunez. Members of the Norwalk High School football team had expected to raise money with the car wash, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the Volk Fire Station on Connecticut Avenue, according to Sharon Cadden. Instead, they will be mourning Nunez, a former team member who died Tuesday after slipping out of an inner tube in Candlewood Lake.
Cadden said Nunez's funeral will be Saturday morning at Hoyt Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 E. Wall St. A spokesperson for the funeral home could not confirm that information, but Cadden says on her Facebook page that services begin at 11 a.m.
Other Facebook posters say Nunez, a 2011 graduate of Norwalk High, was on the boys winter and spring track teams. "He would come every day he could, train with our field events coach Lea Johnson and then come up to the track and ask me to time him," Bill Martin said. "He wanted to get faster so he could compete in the 100m & 200m events. He also believed it would improve his opportunity to play football at NHS. This is very sad news."
