Norwalk resident Troy Cichowicz, 45, was arrested Friday morning by Westport police after officers received a report of a suspicious white van in the area of Sylvan Road South. Upon arriving in the area, officers reportedly saw the white van make a left turn onto Post Road West while traveling at a high rate of speed.
The officers tried to pull the van over, but it continued into Norwalk, where it eventually came to a stop on Brookfield Street. When officers approached the van, they allegedly saw several empty beer cans inside as well as a partial 18-pack of beer and smelled alcohol on Cichowicz's breath. Cichowicz, who was reportedly evasive in his answers to the officers' questions, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence, disobeying the signal of an officer, improper rear/marker lamps, traveling too fast for conditions and having insurance coverage below minimum requirements. He is due in court Dec. 21.
