NORWALK, Conn. Youngsters can turn in their candy for money Tuesday at a Norwalk dentist's office, and in so doing send a gift to a soldier serving in Afghanistan. Staff members at the office of Maria Parras, DDS, located at 10 Berkeley St., say they heard about Operation Gratitude last year and decided to participate in the program run by dentists. The candy will be shipped to California, where volunteers box it, including it in a Christmas gift.
"This is a way to say thanks for our troops," said Katje Donovan, a receptionist. "One of our patients was overseas and this made us realize that we're very lucky."
Children will get $1 a pound for unopened candy during the buyback, up to $5. The buyback happens from 3 to 6 p.m. For more information call 203-853-4763.
