NORWALK, Conn. Andy Garfunkel, Democratic candidate for mayor, has released the following statement in response to recent news reports:
One of the unfortunate side effects of transparency is that the voters get to see even some issues that do not directly affect them or the way a candidate is prepared to govern. How a candidate conducts the bricks and mortar of his campaign what consultants advise him, for instance really has little to do with how he interacts with the voters on the issues. It may be an unfortunate side effect of transparency that I have been open and trusting with the press to discuss internal matters. I hope that does not cloud the voters' understanding of what really is important in this campaign. The Democratic Party and I have established a street-front headquarters (on Wall Street) so we could be available to voters of any party to come in and ask questions on matters that concern them about the operation of the party and especially, the city. I invite all to come down for a conversation or dialogue about the issues and what concerns them. As a candidate it is my duty to visit homes and speak with residents on a daily basis, to introduce myself and ask people what's on their mind, to find out how I can help make our city better. The focus of my campaign is on the issues, our city and our residents.
