This resolved a 2-year old lawsuit by Al Madany against the city after the city’s Zoning Commission rejected plans for a 27,000-square-foot building on the 1.5-acre property at 127 Fillow St. in West Norwalk.

Many in the residential neighborhood had said the proposed mosque was too large for the site.

As part of the agreement:

  • Norwalk will pay $307,500 for litigation costs and $925,000 for damages to Al Madany.
  • Norwalk will buy the property for $585,000.
  • The city will work with mosque officials to find a new site and pay up to $215,000 for development costs.
