FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Registration is now open for nonprofits to take part in the third annual Fairfield County's Giving Day, hosted by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation.

Set for March, Fairfield County’s Giving Day encourages individuals, families, companies, clubs and groups to “give where you live” in support of local nonprofits.

“The excitement and enthusiasm for Giving Day is contagious,” says the Community Foundation’s President and CEO Juanita T. James. “Now in our third year, we’ve seen more and more community members and nonprofits engage in this incredible day of giving. As the region’s Community Foundation, our goal is to increase local philanthropy and uplift the important programs impacting all of our neighborhoods and neighbors. Giving Day is a fun, effective and inclusive way to help accomplish that goal.”

To encourage giving, organizations that register by Dec. 16 will be entered into a $1,000 grant drawing, said James.

Fairfield County’s Giving Day has become a giving phenomenon since it began three years ago. More than $1,000,000 was raised last year in only 24 hours for 386 nonprofits. This represents a 41 percent increase in donations and 45 percent increase in nonprofit participation from the previous year, James added.

Bank of America joins the Community Foundation as the event’s champion sponsor for the third year in a row: “Fairfield County Giving Day provides a great opportunity for our community to come together to support over 400 nonprofits in our region,” said Bill Tommins, Southern Connecticut market president, Bank of America. “In 2016, we challenge ourselves to raise even more funds, paving the way for our nonprofits to provide additional impact.”

Anyone with a credit/debit card and internet access may contribute $10 or more during the 24-hour fundraising marathon. Matching funds and sponsor-contributed cash prizes amplify charitable donations, create friendly competition and build momentum throughout the fundraiser.
