NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk's Calf Pasture Beach and Shady Beach were popular places to be Saturday afternoon. With temperatures nearing 100, many people were in the water, but the cool, shaded picnic areas were more popular.
Henry Vargas was twisting balloons for his family as they enjoyed hot dogs and other beach foods. Many other families stayed off the beach, where the sun made things uncomfortable.
The forecast calls for cooler days ahead, with temperatures peaking at 89 Sunday and 82 Monday and Tuesday. There’s a 40 percent chance of rain Sunday, with a.m. showers possible.

the has been severely damaged in the past. Their have sections ripped out and "pilings" needed to be replaced. that said the city always had it repaired in time for the summer seasonp
I recall reading on these pages that the new practice this summer was to have non-residents park on Taylor Farm and keep Beach Parking for residents only. We can now see at any given time how many non-residents are using the beach, and it does seem like a lot. Maybe it's time to dramatically raise the cost for non-residents, say to $40 per car, so that those not willing to pay up go elsewhere.
Ken P - I believe the damage to the pier is more serious than missing decking, if memory serves it was something structural. Whatever the case I hope it's fixed very soon, that pier is a great feature
I wouldnt know, the beach isnt big enough for people who live in East Norwalk any more.
when is going on with the fishing pier?????
Seems like the amenities that the taxpayers use arent as important as attracting hoards of out of towners anymore. Gardella has fixed their road that washed out last year, which included a new concrete retaining wall and a steel bulkhead a couple hundred feet long, but the City cant screw down some decking on the pier and fix a short section of stone wall. Its a priority thing & we the tax payers aint the priority.
I dont think Taylor Farm is a parking lot & I dont think we need so many out of towners. Its clearly out of control if the visitors to the beach cant even fit in the existing lot. When we used to park in the beach Shady was pretty much reserved for residents, now I see NY cars lined up in no parking zones offloading over the fence. Something they couldnt do when it was a 6 ft chain link fence. One more case of beautifying our parks to benefit visitors at our expense.
