The lawsuit says that  Bushmaster, maker of the AR-15 rifle, should not have made the weapon available for public purchase because it is a military assault weapon and therefore not suited for civilian use, NBC Connecticut reported.

Firearm distributor Camfour and Riverview Gun Sales, the site where the gun was purchased in 2010, were also named in the lawsuit, NBC Connecticut said.

A teacher who was injured in the shooting but survived is also part of the lawsuit, NBC said.
