New Stamford Race Supports Food Bank Of Lower Fairfield County

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford will host the first Run Walk for Health & Hunger presented by Athletic Shoe Factory beginning at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.

The event will benefit The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County and starts and finishes at Chelsea Piers Connecticut at 1 Blachley Road.   A 5K run on a USATF certified course through Stamford and Cove Beach will begin at 8:15 a.m. A one-mile walk for families and children, including a one-mile dog walk sponsored by The Veterinary Cancer Center, will start at 8:30 a.m. 

The entry fee for adults is $40 plus three nonperishable food items. For children 14 and under, the entry fee is $20 and one nonperishable food item each. The entry fee for a family of two adults and up to three children is $80 plus four food items. The food and $5 from each entry fee will be donated to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. During the 1 Mile Dog Walk, dogs must be kept on leashes and up-to-date on vaccinations.    The first 500 registered participants will receive a dri-fit shirt, race bib, finisher’s medal and goody bag. Prizes will be given to overall 5K winners, both men and women, and to first, second and third place winners, men and women, in age groups of 15-30, 31-50 and 50+.

First, second and third place prizes will be awarded for boys and girls in the 14-and-under division. Register now at www.hws-expos.com and click on active.com.   After the Run Walk, participants are welcome to attend the 3rd Annual Stamford Hospital Health Wellness and Sports Expo 2014 at Chelsea Piers Connecticut from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The expo is free. No dogs are allowed inside Chelsea Piers but a complementary doggy day care will be provided by Wagmore from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Owners will need to provide proof of their dog’s vaccinations. 

Saturday is Pet Wellness Day at Expo 2014 with special exhibits related to pet health. At Expo 2014, Stamford Hospital will offer complementary health screenings and there will be more than 80 exhibitors as well as activities for children.
