New Britain Fugitive Arrested in Norwalk

A man wanted for attempted murder was arrested Thursday morning by Norwalk Police acting on an anonymous tip. Armando Bermejo, 25, was being sought by New Britain Police. He was taken back to New Britain and charged with criminal attempt at murder first degree, assault first degree and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Bond was more than $1 million dollars, police said.

Patrol officers, backed up by the Detective Bureau, found Bermejo on the second floor of a Laura Street home, where he resisted arrest and was Tasered twice. Police found a handcuff key in his pocket. New Britain police say Bermejo is a member of a Mexican gang.

? An officer on an extra-duty detail Thursday afternoon smelled marijuana as four men walked past him on Oak St. He thought he saw one of them throw a joint on the curb. He called it in and other officers stopped the men. Dondre Johnson, 19, of 22 Winsor Place, was arrested and charged with possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was $250. Police say they smelled marijuana and found it in Johnson's book bag, along with rolling papers.
