FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The limited bus and train service on Metro-North's New Haven Line will be altered Thursday afternoon between 4 and 8 p.m. for Westchester and Fairfield County commuters, officials announced.

Beginning at 4 p.m., express diesel trains will run from Grand Central Terminal and Harlem-125th Street to Stamford, for connection to electric train service that will make all local stops to New Haven.

For service between Rye and Old Greenwich, commuters will be bused from White Plains beginning at 4:30 p.m. to Rye, where they can board electric train service.

For service between New Rochelle and Harrison, diesel trains will run from Grand Central and Harlem-125th Street beginning at 4:11 p.m.

For service between Mount Vernon East and Pelham, commuters will be bused from the Harlem Line’s Mount Vernon West station.

Bus service will be provided on the Waterbury Branch and limited shuttle train service will operate on the Danbury and New Canaan Branches.

The New Haven Line was stopped between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal because of a power outage in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Wednesday morning. Metro-North Railroad was able to set up limited service using diesel-fueled trains, but the line will not be at full capacity until full electricity is restored.

After 8 p.m. on Thursday the limited off-peak service from Grand Central will resume as follows:

  • -To Grand Central:  Hourly shuttle service between New Haven (departing every 45 minutes after the hour) and Stamford with local train service operating every half hour between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.
  • From Grand Central: Train service operating every half hour (:04 and :34 after the hour) out of Grand Central making all local stops to Stamford with hourly connections at Stamford for train service to New Haven.
