NORWALK, Conn. – The developmentally disabled clients of a Norwalk nonprofit will start eating more healthful meals thanks to the owners of a fast-food chain.
A $5,000 grant from McDonald's Tri-State will help STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way create a healthy eating and nutrition education program, according to a statement. STAR is one of five tri-state area nonprofits selected to receive funds for this program.
"We are excited about this opportunity to provide a nutrition education program to our staff and clients, and grateful for this grant," Katie Banzhaf, executive director of STAR, said in a statement.
"This will help us to offer healthier meals and snacks to our 700+ clients and staff members who participate in our programs in Mid-Fairfield County daily — whether eating in the cafeteria for our day program, enjoying a snack at a group home in our residential program, or making healthier choices when eating at a restaurant for one of our recreational or independent living programs.
"It will also be beneficial to those who participate in our family support program, helping them to make healthier choices at home."
