The aquarium is recipient of a 2015 Travelers’ Choice Award from Trip Advisor, the world’s largest travel site. According to Trip Advisor: “Our highest accolade, Travelers’ Choice winners are among the top 1 percent of TripAdvisor properties based on traveler reviews and opinions in categories including hotels, destinations, restaurants and attractions in a variety of categories and geographies.”
It’s the first Travelers’ Choice Award for the aquarium, which previously earned Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2013 and 2014. The certificate recognizes attractions in the top 10 percent of visitor reviews. Besides earning the 2015 Travelers’ Choice Award, the positive reviews place The Maritime Aquarium at No. 20 on Trip Advisor’s list of Top 25 aquariums in the United States.
“Obviously, we are very pleased to receive the Travelers’ Choice Award, knowing that it directly reflects the positive experiences and opinions of our visitors,” said Brian Davis, president of the aquarium, in a press release. “It’s rewarding to know that our efforts in presenting the best-possible experience for visitors – through our engaging exhibits and how we as staff and volunteers interact with guests – are correct and appreciated.”
The aquarium is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to educate visitors about – and to create stewards for – Long Island Sound. It accomplishes this by allowing visitors to get close to more than 250 species native to the Sound and its watershed, including sharks, seals, sea turtles, river otters, jellyfish and other animals.
