Joseph Abraham Sr. attempted suicide after stabbing his wife, 25-year-old Amanda Trenck, to death, police said. He appeared in Westchester County Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of weapons possession.

Abraham stabbed Trenck multiple times in her body and torso after a domestic dispute, police said.

Shortly before 9:15 a.m. May 21, officers from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the Van Cortlandt Park Avenue apartment, on a report of an attempted suicide with multiple victims potentially at the scene.

Upon arrival, police officers found a deceased woman in her bedroom, and a man was still alive in the hallway with “severe lacerations to his wrists.” The man -- later identified as Abraham -- was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Police said that other family members who lived in the apartment called 911 after the bodies were found. They reportedly cooperated with law enforcement authorities and several knives were recovered at the scene.

Contributions in Trenck’s memory be made to a scholarship fund for her daughter, Victoria Abraham, P.O. Box 863, New Milford, CT 06776.
