NORWALK, Conn. John B. McBennett, 72, a member of the Norwalk High School class of 1956, died last week at Norwalk Hospital. McBennett, of Norwalk and West Harwich, Mass., worked in the finance industry and retired as a controller for Perkin-Elmer.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Shore and Country Club, the Silvermine Golf Club and the Cranbury Valley Golf Club in West Harwich. McBennett served on the planning and zoning committee and the pension board for the city of Norwalk, the finance committee at St. Philip Church, and recently was a driver for FISH.
He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., graduated from Providence College in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army for two years before his career in finance.
He is survived by his wife Marie, his four daughters, Lauren Mappa and husband Larry of Fairfield, Linda Miller and husband Lane of Denver, Christine Malcarney and husband Chris of Philadelphia, and Ellen Ivory and husband Tom of Elkins Park, Pa.; siblings Patrick McBennett, Mary Furmanek, Eileen Callahan and Ann Karas; and 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
