Items Needed For Norwalk Human Services Council's Back-To-School Drive

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Human Services Council, which will be hosting its "Family Day" events later this month, is preparing donations of backpacks filled with school supplies to hand out at the events.

And the agency is still short on a few school supplies. 

The agency still is in need of supplies for the backpacks and is requesting items be donated no later than Aug. 19. The following items are needed:

  • Erasers
  • Glue sticks
  • Small scissors (elementary size)
  • Markers (basic colors)

Donations can be picked up or dropped off at 1 Park St., Norwalk. For pickup, email creinoso@hscct.org or call 203-849-1111.

The agency's annual "Backpack & School Supply Drive" benefits children in some of Norwalk’s housing complexes. This year, the drive will benefit the children who live at Roodner Court and Washington Village.

The Community Prevention Task Force members and volunteers assemble the backpacks and fill them with school supplies. The backpacks will be distributed during the "Family Day" events.

The events consist of a free barbecue, beverages, ice cream, music provided by a disc jockey, face painting, balloon sculpting and other free events, according to a press release.

The Roodner Court event will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15; the Washington Village event will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21.
