Huge Traffic Jams Reported On I-95, Merritt In Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Miles-long delays on I-95 and the Merritt Parkway were reported across Fairfield County on Wednesday morning after Metro-North trains were stopped by a power failure in New York state, the Connecticut Department of Transportation reported.

A 27.9-mile delay was reported on southbound I-95, from Exit 35 in Milford to Exit 5 in Stamford.

A 15.4-mile delay was reported on the southbound Merritt from Exit 47 in Fairfield to Exit 36 in New Canaan.

Metro-North began providing extremely limited service Wednesday morning on the New Haven Line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal using diesel locomotives, the railroad announced on its website.

Hourly westbound service will be provided from Stamford, making all local stops to Grand Central Terminal beginning at 9 a.m.

Hourly eastbound service will be provided from Grand Central Terminal, making all local stops to Stamford starting at 9:10 a.m.

Customers should expect crowded trains and platforms.  New Haven Line tickets continue to be cross honored on the Harlem Line.

Trains were stopped in Westchester County, N.Y., due to a power problem there.

Riders are advised to listen for announcements at stations and to expect significant delays.
