NORWALK, Conn. -- Three Little Free Libraries are soon to be installed around Norwalk.
Handmade by Roman Potrykus of New England Building and Management Corp., the Norwalk Little Free Libraries will be placed in three locations: outside the George Washington Carver Community Center at 7 Academy St. and two other locations to be determined.
The first box will be installed this week.
Leading up to their installations around town, Susan and Steve Hanson of the Hanson Realty Group in Norwalk are partnering with William Raveis Real Estate to host a book drive.
The book drive will take place from now until April 30. If interested, you can drop off books for donation on the front porch of the William Raveis Real Estate office at 3 Park St., Norwalk. The idea is for the stations to be self-sustaining -- take a book, read it, return it or another book you want to share with others. However, as ‘stewards’ of the libraries the Hansons want to make sure they’re never empty.
The Hansons explained the reasoning behind their sponsorship: “We’re thrilled to be able to sponsor these three Little Free Libraries. As Norwalk residents for almost 40 years, we’re excited to give back to our community. As realtors in the area, we’re lucky to visit the diverse neighborhoods around Norwalk on a daily basis; it’s one of our favorite things about living and working here. We wanted to celebrate that diversity by putting these posts in three very different locations around town.”
Potrykus added, “this is a unique way to strengthen our community while also promoting literacy. I’m excited to be part of this initiative.”
