Update, 2:20 p.m., Friday: A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Fairfield County until 9 p.m., Friday.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - Get out your Kevlar umbrellas, Fairfield County. Friday’s prediction -- for severe weather in the form of thunderstorms, high winds and possibly hail in our region -- probably should not come as a surprise, considering the severe and unpredictable weather we have experienced throughout the past couple of seasons.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, severe weather in our region Friday afternoon will bridge the heat we've been enduring and the cool weather that will follow. Be prepared for the possibility of dangerous lightning and heavy downpours, along with the potential for hail.

The good news? Saturday should bring lower temperatures and humidity.
