"I feel privileged to have been part of the effort in having a positive impact of the lives of seniors," said Coniglio, who has been coordinator for 20 years. "I had a terrific staff who are committed to providing the best possible service. I plan on doing Patient Advocacy, volunteer work, taking classes, and being a participant at the Theodore D. Young Community Center.
Coniglio began working for the Greenburgh Parks and Recreation Department in 1988 and was transferred to the Young Community Center in 1994. A year later he was promoted to coordinator of Senior Services. A two-time Employee of the Month (June 1997 and February 2006), Coniglio has helped boost senior attendance and developed the group's Theater Club, Evergreen club, yoga classes and introduced the seniors to the Internet.
Coniglio brought with him a Master Degree in Therapeutic Recreation (Lehman College, 1984) and added a Masters of Public Administration from Pace University in June 1990. He also served as CSEA Union Vice President from 2005-2009 and grievance chairperson from 2009 to the present.
"Our staff are long term and many have been here 10 or more years," Coniglio said. "Our programs extend beyond providing leisure time activities. We provide a place for people to socialize. Under one roof, seniors can have lunch, learn about services and programs , plus developed friendships."
Coniglio said he is leaving his seniors in good hands. "I'm excited about Tina Harper, who will now serve in this position," Coniglio said. "I had time to meet with her and have great confidence in her impressive background and skills."
As for Friday, his last day on the job, Coniglio is looking forward to enjoying the fruits of his two decades of dedicated work.
"I'm getting a Center Membership card on my last day," Coniglio said.
