Gaetano DelGiudice, once known as the "Mayor of South Norwalk," died at his home Saturday at the age of 84. DelGiudice was the owner of the Monroe St. Barber Shop for 37 years, a "devoted, hard-working, peaceful man" who thought of his customers as his friends, according to his family.
Born on Oct. 2, 1926, in Filandari, Calabria, Italy, DelGiudice lived in Norwalk for 47 years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Agnese Cappuccia-DelGiudice; his daughter Teresa DelGiudice-Hall and her husband Jim Hall; a son, Joseph DelGiudice; and four grandchildren.
His family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 E. Wall St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, 23 Half Mile Road.
