CROSS RIVER, N.Y. New York State Police say that the shotgun used in the suicide-murder in Cross River last week was purchased legally by Samuel Friedlander at a Yonkers sporting goods store back in April.
According to investigators, Samuel Friedlander, 50, beat his wife, Amy, 46, to death, and then shot his two children, Molly, 10, and Gregory, 8, before turning the gun on himself last Tuesday, Oct. 18, at their home on Lambert Ridge Road.
Major Michael Kopy, commander of State Police Troop K in Somers, said the weapon a Remington model 870 12-gauge shotgun was purchased on April 29 from All Counties Sporting Supply Inc., in Yonkers along with two boxes of 00 buckshot shotgun ammunition.
Kopy said the preliminary investigation into the purchase of the weapon indicates that proper procedures were followed with regard to the sale of the gun. He said that based on records maintained by the gun shop, Friedlander identified himself at the time of the purchase with a valid New York State drivers license.
