Fire Risk Flares Up in Norwalk

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Low humidity and scant rainfall have driven up the danger of quickly spreading wildfires in Fairfield County.

A " red flag warning " is in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service says.

"Any fires that start will likely spread rapidly," the National Weather Service says. "Outdoor burning is not recommended."

Winds will blow from 15 to 25 mph, with higher gusts, and humidity could drop as low as 15 percent Wednesday afternoon, the weather service says. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s.

"A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels will create a significantly elevated fire growth potential," the weather service says.

Temperatures will cool Thursday, dropping into the mid-50s. No rain is expected through the weekend, the weather service says.
