Father of Abused Norwalk Baby Arrested

NORWALK, Conn. – The father of a baby who was severely injured in Norwalk was arrested Thursday, the second arrest in the case, Norwalk Police Lt. Ashley Gonzalez said.

The baby's mother was arrested in late September after her 5-month-old daughter was found to have suffered two fractures to her skull, eight fractured ribs and a fractured arm, police said.

Paul Nikolis, 27, of no known address, was taken into custody in Bridgeport without incident and transported to Norwalk. He was held on $100,000 bond. Jamie Lane, 22, of 5 Avenue E, was arrested on Sept. 29 and is being held at a Connecticut Correctional Institution for women on $75,000 bond.

The baby's grandparents took her to the hospital Sept. 26 after consulting a family member who is a social worker. Hospital doctors told police that the 5-month-old girl's right lung was collapsing, and she had a fracture on her upper right arm, as well as eight broken ribs, police said. Some of the fractures were healing.

Lane, Nikolis and the baby were living with the grandparents, police said. Nikolis was charged with first-degree assault, a class B felony, and risk of injury to a minor, a class C felony.
